I dont think Ken is being sarcastic. But wonder if he is checking to see if the effort to reconfigure the radio is worth it. I for one would like to see it back on. It is interesting to see how many other hams have the same interests. I have a list of a little more than 400 hams from my Mheard. And most of those are from the Mid-west to the East coast. But we certainly need more than 77 votes. 73 everyone.
Listening to the packet bursts while watching the ISS pass overhead is a great demonstration - all you need is an HT. Far better than silence in my opinion. Yes, it is very cool when the crew comes on the radio, but we must be reasonable as they have a lot to do up there.
I would have chosen a third choice: Crossband repeater. Its been something like 147 days since that was last reported to be active... What happened to it? Another thing that would be of interest, especially when showing off this part of amateur radio to family, friends and schools etc, would be a voice ID every 1/2 hour or so. Something like "This is NA1SS, International Space Station".
I intentionally did not add the cross band repeater since it is problematic to get operational. This poll represents the most likely configurations based on past experience. I also considered adding SSTV downlink operations but that isn't working correctly at the moment either.
A voice ID every 30 minutes could mean that one might not hear it for weeks. Once every 8 minutes should allow someone to copy it every pass. Problem is implementation. ARISS would have to design, manufacture, certify and fly hardware to support that.

This poll has no sense
Kenneth I think you meant to be sarcastic in this one.
Of course anything is better than silence! Do we need to ask?

Which do you prefer when the crew is not active on voice?
