I'm not to surprised about

I'm not to surprised about the 1 w catagory. There should have been a 5w catagory in there as well. I believe most votes for the 1w would have been for the 5w. Alot of those voters are probably ht users like myself and only run on 5w due to the noise created by others. On a quiet day 1 w would get through, but when was that?

I'm surprised at the 1W category responses; it's difficult to believe that such low power transceivers could hit a bird, compete with other signals, and become a popular means of communicating when more powerful HTs are available for about the same price. I think this category may have been chosen by people because there was no 2-5W category corresponding to an HT and a handheld yagi -- the 50W category represents a completely different class of radio.

Low orbit

Is possible to make contacts with ISS and other low orbit birds using up to 1 W power in low qrm and noise conditions

power on LEO

Well is possible. Up to 1W means from few mWat's to 1W. For LEO birds i usualy use 10W in FM mode and i have a lot of 59 controls, i turn on 30W only when the noise and qrm is very strong. Also i work offen with 5W out and i know a lot of LEO users who use theyr crossyagis and 5w handy equipement. And i have 8 contacts on AO27 using 500mW power ( 0.5W) and is possible if the noise level is very low. Think for example that SO50 come to earth with 250 mW bigest power so you can make a lot of contacts up to 1W with good antenas. Just try, you will have a big surprise.
