Longer than usual silence

Sorry for the long packet silence on ISS. The packet radio system was expected to be quiet for some time due to the EVAs that were done in early July. I was on business travel for three weeks after that and have not been able to check on the situation. The closure of the Johnson Space center due to the threat of a tropical storm has further delayed my efforts to investigate. I'll try and see what might be going on but at this point anything I would have to offer would be wild speculation. Hopefully, it is nothiing serious and the system can be quickly reactivated.

APRS Status

Is the APRS beacon on the ISS operational? The AMSAT site says that it is. But during a recent pass the only packets I heard were my own, and transmissions from a nearby school.

Are the up-coming events plan by the Naval Academy such as the LAD-C/PCSat3 and SCIENCE still being planned as describe? There was a report once regarding RFI problems with these type projects. Looking for answers? Are there any issues with RFI and the projects slated for PCSAT3.
Hoping to read updates!
Kenwood Internal TNC's and UISS

Greetings all-

I'm running the TS-2000 and the D710 and I have yet to find a TNC setting
in UISS which works with them. The MFJ-1278 will at least function in RX.

Anyone have the answer to this?

Thanks!

The ISS BBS??

I have a question for the group.... I've noticed lately that people are connecting to the ISS BBS on most every pass.....and I've also noticed that the stations that are connecting are new calls that I haven't seen before. Have they just not read...or done any leg work to understand accepted protocol ....?? I thought I read awhile ago that people using the BBS should use the later passes....is this etched in stone or do I just need to accept the fact that I can't digi my aprs info during these passes?

Any help in clearing this up would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks;
Gary N2NRJ

Successful contact using JingTong and J-Pole

I successfully connected to the ISS bbs and uploaded a message using only a 2.5W Jingtong radio and homemade J-Pole antenna!

The J-Pole antenna was strung up in a tree in the garden, under which i sat with my radio and laptop. Living in Cape Town, South Africa means I have the ISS to myself on most passes.

Just proving its possible!
