During 1996, a group of amateur radio operators involved in the communications with the MIR Space Station, decided to join into the "Mir Fan Club". In a very short time over 1200 enthusiasts from all over the world asked to participate, including Cosmonaut Valery Korzun, while leading crew #22. Nowdays MIR is not flying anymore, but here we are again with the same spirit and the same enthusiasm for the ISS, the new International Space Station.

A flashback to Mir...

Hi!

While I was working on my computers at home this evening, I was testing a streaming audio app on my iPod. I stumbled across the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Radio National service, and dropped into the middle of a program called Top of the Pods. The program that was in progress sounded like it was talking about something related to ham radio - and it was! It was a program about an Australian YL ham who connected to the Mir packet mailbox about 20 years ago, including through the time of the disintegration of the USSR in late 1991.

M6WAD contact with PI9ISS Sunday 26th February 2012

Had my first contact with the ISS and spoke to Andre, PI9ISS. The recording is only of him speaking, but although a first for me, I think Andre's said it was his first contact to The UK. Hope I get the QSL card to put as pride of place in my Shack
