RS0ISS-3 digi for pkt contact?

Hi!
are many years that I'm not in radio, and I have started my space activity with I.S.S. from few weeks.
I have a question; Is usual in packet mode contact another amateur radio pms via RS0ISS-3 digipeater? I remember that this was possible with the MIR, but now i think is different, I see the port 3 used by APRS.
This my question is just to know the rules on the use of PMS.

Can I receive down packet

Can I receive down packet with only a scanner or I need a modem/tnc?
I receive a powerfull signal but I don't know how to decode it.

You can use RS0ISS-3 as a

You can use RS0ISS-3 as a digi, but ARISS and WIDE2-2 also works.
RS0ISS-11 is the onboard BBS.

Hi Andrè,

thanks for your answer.
so I can make a direct contact with (example) your PMS via RS0ISS-3 Like: connect pe1pqx via rs0iss-3 for a normal PMS's direct qso contact.
So, there are no restrictions on the use of digipeater in packet mode (mindful of the basics behavior during radio links).
Thanks a lot.

Re: RSOISS-3 digi for packet contact?

Hello Enzo,

The way you describe (a connect!) is not recommanded it gives delays.
Because the packet system send confirmation frames if the frames
arrive (or not) it will repeat (that slows the traffic for others).
Connect only the ISS bbs RS0ISS-11 there you can read and post messages.
But if you do like to send messages (everyone does this) to other stations
via RS0ISS-3 than use aprs software (such as uiview or uiss).

Hello Enzo,

If you use aprs software, you can also see if your beacons
arrived (via ISS) on the findu page:
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/ariss/index.cgi

But right now (29 Nov.) the ISS packet system is not active.
I hope it will be switched on soon (you can see it in the status reports).
Good luck and I hope to see you next time via ISS.

Hi Cor,
I just work only in packet mode, after 8 yrs of inactivity my hardware configuration is the same of 1999 with magic DOS! in my tx-rx there are the work frequencies of MIR and DO-17 (another story!).
I hope also to read you via ISS and will send you a big thank for all your informations.
