New to the club
I am new to the club and enjoy trying to contact the Iss. I operate a Yaesu 857 d and have
a 2m/440 yagi that I want to use handheld. Just wondering if anybody can give me some
constuctive tips on how to get started. I am limited to my equipment.

New in the club.
Hello all.
I am Alan EI1571 a swl from the s/e of Ireland.
I came across the ISS fan club while researching sstv .
I had the pleasure of seeing the ISS cross over my qth last week twice.
I have been monitoring the frequencies , but it takes a lot of persistence and I did hear a quick qso but before I could reach the shack , it qsb`ed. Pity.
Maybe next time.
Patience and persistance
Equipment is less of an issue (though the better available is always an advantage) as I have made contact using just a HT and telescoping antenna. Knowing when the crew is awake and what mode the radio is in are two key bits of info to being ready to work the ISS. Do a lot of listening and be ready for the various modes by monitoring several of the informational posts like the ones on this site and some others like http://oscar.dcarr.org/index.php and http://www.ariss.net/ for status.
The various crewmembers are not always available or even interested in being on the radio and rarely announce when they will be so the key is persistance and patience.
