The batteries probably came up on the Progress 33 resupply ship. This round of SSTV images was part of a Russian experiment ( http://www.energia.ru/eng/iss/researches/education-26.html ). Today (May 27) is the last day of that experiment. Total supplies used , 8 AA batteries.
On a more positive note, the ARISS team is trying to get a power adapter for the VC-H1 built and certified so the unit could be left on for longer periods of time.
And as I learned from Cor's report (PD0RKC): when the batteries of the camera are down it sends just a plain picture with the callsign "NA1SS" on a purple background. So... they've installed new batteries! Because I've received pictures of clouds again. They seem to be testing for a Russian project. So will be going on for a while (I hope as long as the new batteries hold).
are they using VC-H1 for SSTV?
I wonder who ran to 7 eleven and posted the AA batteries to the ISS.. hihi..
