Re:Packet Active
Imagine my excitement when I saw listed in the status section that packet was active again! Imagine my disappointment when I went to the link only to see yet another posting about no packet activity heard on another pass. Do we really need postings telling us that packet, voice, sstv, etc. hasn't happened on a pass??

Active??? Ya right.
Can you imagine a local club repeater that has an operational record like ARISS? The club would be the laughing stock of the entire ham community.
I agree with you, KB9KTD,
I agree with you, KB9KTD, that a local club repeater that is up and down like the ISS is wouldn't be good if the community expected it to be up all the time but I don't think that is the expectation of the ISS ham package.
I don't think comparing a local repeater to the ISS is a good parallel. ISS is a scientific mission with many other things going on. I'm actually happy that it's up as much as it is. To have an amateur radio package on board ISS is a very lucky thing and I am happy that the ISS mission controllers actually do allow it to comeback on when the mission allows it to.
(ur) a real sport..
@ KB9KTD
When I studied for my HAM licensce about a year ago I learned that one of the main objectives of our mutual HAM radio hobby is "personal/social development". Therefor I think HAM radio is not a "competition sport" like football or baseball, though sometimes it seems that way with all these contests on the frequencies.
But only for this minor part in our hobby -contests- the number of contacts made counts, but the main goal, seeing the main objective of our hobby, is of course the quality of the contacts made and not so much the quantity.
A log is reminder for oneself and a means to be able to confirm QSO's, it is not a way to "enter the competition", nor a way to determine the skills of the operator.
So in my eyes the one that sees the number of contacts of a persons' or a club's operational record as the defining factor for a good HAM/clubstation actually makes a laugh of himself

Marc, it's simplex now (with the shifts for doppler) and the call sign I was able to use for the digi was RS0ISS-4. I digied via ISS on Saturday but I haven't heard it on the last couple of days. the ariss.net page shows positions reports three days old.

I Copied RS0ISS-4 on the 11th May, but was not able to use it. The unproto "ARISS" did not work either. And I could not connect RS0ISS-11 on 145.825 though I copied: RS0ISS-4>CQ,SGATE Port=1 : >ARISS - International Space Station (BBS/APRS on)
And no copy the last few days overhere either...

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't been on the air for months with ISS and was using ARISS as my unproto. I figured I'd try my unproto as RS0ISS-4 and I was able to digi. Hope they turn it back on soon.
PACKET
They will turn it on again! That's for sure. For us to find out when and how to work the repeater(s).
As said: the less regular, the more interesting it becomes, seeing the "economical" nature of our mind ;-) And indeed as you say: something to hope for! What a great thing this hobby!
Re:Packet Active
Keeping the rest of us up to date is a good thing. I have just missed a pass, and would like to know what is happening up there. Whether or not it is worth it, to spend time doing other things, when there may be an active pass or not ? I would like to know whether or not I am wasting my time ?
Re: Packet Active
I agree with 9W2KEY that if there's no active pass, then a "not active" report should be posted. VK7BBW talks about wanting to know whether he's wasting his time by listing for birds that aren't "on the air" (no pun intended). I agree, I don't want to be wasting my time looking through inaccurate posting either. It's nice to be able to look at the "accurate" Amateur Radio Status part of this web site. Posting inaccurate information here wastes all of our time.
re: Packet - active/not
This whole thread is goofy !
It takes a mere 10 minutes for ISS to travel from horizon to horizon. Are you saying you dont have ten minutes to "waste" on ham radio ?....listening ?
What exactly did you miss out on in the 1/2 second it took to click on the link to discover no activity ? Wrong hobby ?....go mow the lawn, The rest of us will listen and have fun and after the 10 minutes are gone, someone MIGHT post " active " for the rest of you !
Good luck , 73 Ron
Hi Ron, I agree with you on
Hi Ron,
I agree with you on your point that it only takes ten minutes to find out but...
When the passes are during working hours I can adjust my breaks to go out to the truck so it makes it nice to see the status here. I can check in a couple of minutes at my desk and know when I will be taking breaks. It also makes it nice when I want to invite non-ISS hams or just non-hams to "listen in" with me. A few times with no ISS and they tend to lose interest.
Just my 2 cents...
Chris
Re: goofy thread
My lawns mowed, now what? ;-)
lawn mowing
It seems to have worked. ISS packet is up agn!!!
Could you maybe mow your lawn more often N0VJN?
;-) Marc
Re:lawn...
Hey, if that's all it takes! ;-) Actually, haven't been in the shack long enough these days to catch anything, much less the ISS. Good luck to those able to make the contacts, whatever the mode!! Thanks for the fun guys, take care.
Re:lawn...
That depends on the size of ur lawn! ;-)
Re:goofy thread
Put a chair in the middle of the lawn, and look if there are any birds "on the air".
This helps against anxiety ;-)
please give a right
please give a right report... if not active, give report NOT ACTIVE
