I was facinated!!!
I can just listen to HAM now,,as I'm nearing the end of a course,,and will be ready soon to take my basic exam,,,should be early April.

Getting to the point, lol,,,,has anyone ever heard of Ham Radio Deluxe?
A friend of mine sent me the link, and I downloaded it,,,,he has the ISS on his map,,plus alot of interesting stuff.
I'm not great with computers,so,I'm still learning how to use it,lol.
Anyway,I'm enjoying the site you have here,,and just wanted to pass on the name of the HRD site also as it might also be a help to someone.

More or less,I'm just intoducing myself.

Re: Ham Radio Deluxe?

Steve,
Ham Radio Deluxe is a great program! I use it for controlling my ICOM 718. As you progress in the hobby you will find more uses than the satellite portion of the progam. I love the Satellite portion though as it gives you the ability to track The space station as well as other satellites along with calculating the doppler offsets.

The satellite tracker in HRD has a lot of potential. At present it is still in preview stage and some functions do not work properly with some satellite radios. Orbitron is another excellent program and is arguably much easier to use. SatPC32 is another popular program and is currently the pick when it comes to auto doppler and rotator control.

Orbitron

Thanks for the info on Orbitron. I downloded and used it to make contact with Ao-27. I was wondering If anyone can tell me what level the Mag(ilum) will need to reach before the satellite can been seen over city light polution? I know that the Shuttle, the hubble and ISS are easily visible due to thier size. I have watched the Iridum when I was in the moutains a couple years ago. I have a Boy Scout troup and a Civil air Patrol group I want to show the sat passes. I unfortanly do not get to the campouts enough to take advantage of no city lights, so I am limited to Monday nights while we in town.

One other question. I was told years ago that when complete the ISS would be visible at times during the day because of it's size. Was that just someone just pulling my leg or can you actully see it?

Orbitron

Thanks for the info about Orbitron,,I'm going to look it up now.
According to this site,,the ISS is supposed to pass right over Newfoundland at 10:34pm tonight,,so I'll have my radio on.
I'm really looking forward to doing the test.I study alot, and keep going over everything.
I listen to nets sometimes,,and look forward to being able to join a club,,SONRA is the local one here, and they're putting off the course,so,I'll probably join that one.
It's a pretty cool bunch of people,,well, interesting,.Actually, everyone I've talked to that are into Ham are interesting people.
Here in Newfoundland, every december 12th I think it is,,it's the anniversery of Marconi's first wireless contact,,and SONRA goes up to Signal Hill, about 1/2 hour from my house, and talks all over to differnt countries. It's pretty cool.
Anyway,,thanks again for the info,,I'm going to look at Orbitron also.
Talk to you later,,Steve
