Voice last week

yankeeoscar – September 30, 2008 – 16:33

Has someone been able to contact ISS via voice in the last week ? I just hear the cosmonauts Saturday speaking russian on 143.625 to the Third Science Festival in Moscow (my location is aprox near Russia). I use 145.200 for uplink and 145.800 for downlink.

Another question : my power supply for the transciever is not so powerful, so I have only 10W of power. Is that sufficient?

Thanks.

Communication

The Russian crews often talk to Moscow MCC or perform special event activities when in range of the Russian ground communications network. Activity on the amateur frequencies is dependant on crew interest. I don't recall any general amateur radio contacts performed in the last 6 months. I expect that to change with the new crew arriving in Oct.

Regarding power, you have enough to reach the ISS. The challenge is having enough to be heard when many others are trying as well. You didn't mention what kind of antenna you have. A beam on an AZ/EL rotor will increase your chances over a vertical.
