F0ESV – April 8, 2008 – 19:17

Hi all,

Just to post a late report from APRS :

During the past at 20h25 UTC, i received some stations in my car :

9A2GA-2, PD0RKC-5, SP9TTX

I was driving in JN39 square, i received on a Kenwood TMD700 and Antenna Sirio HP2070

Please if you read me, how much power do you use for APRS ?
Can i hope to join RS0ISS-4 with my mobil config ?

Tnx to all Best 73's de F0ESV - Willy

Power

N5VHO – April 9, 2008 – 01:40

Under ideal conditions, only 1 watt is needed. I can get into the ISS digi with 5 watts on my handheld if there is not too much traffic. A mobile should have little trouble unless conditions are crowed. Turning off all unattended beacons would be a way to minimize the congestion.

Verify

You might check your Keps and pass times as the packet system has been active and is passing over France right now (1844 UTC).
But, you better hurry as the crew will power down the radio to support the Soyuz docking tomorrow.

Tnx Kenneth and also Cor

Sorry again for the mistake but i'm just using the tracking system from the site and visibly it isn't OK.
So i re-install Orbitron and now the Keps seem good because i received some stations during the last pass over France. I post a report for it.

Have a good night Best 73's

APRS from mobile!

pd0rkc – April 9, 2008 – 19:21

Hello Willy,

In the past a few stations used a Kenwood TH-D7 HT with
little handheld whip and some of their beacons where
heard and digipeated by ISS (sure it was a lucky shot in silent moment).
During afternoon and evening times it is very crowded via ISS on
europe.
I think 25 watts (or more) would be good from mobile, in an open
earia with not much buildings/houses arround you.
Sadly a TM-D700 has raw 5khz steps so a bit too big steps
to correct doppler (which can be importand at weak moments!!!).
But I am sure it is more easy when you trie ISS on high passes.
Be sure if the SWR of your car antenna is good for maximum preformance!

Good luck!
