APRS via the ISS

zs6bne – December 24, 2007 – 08:20

Hi all,

I have often watched the ISS fly past , it's absolutely beautiful to see!

Looking at the AMSAT pages and information on the ISS active frequencies , I see APRS is operational on 145.825 Mhz simplex. I would like to try and digipeat my APRS position via the ISS using a TH-D7A(g) handheld and hombrew "Arrow" type yagi. Must the path be APRS via ARISS ? The comments on the Internet are sometimes way outdated and possibly no longer applicable?

HELLO DEAR EDDIE!
I AM ALSO WORKING WITH TH-D7A(G).
FOR DIGIPEATING BY ISS JUST USE AS PATH:
RS0ISS-4 (ONLY!!!!)
IT IS A SIMBLE AND QUICK WAY TO BE DIGIPEATED!
BELIEVE ME! IT WORKS EVERY TIME!!!!

Just one mode

Using "RS0ISS-4" in the path name works but only when the D700 is configured in PKT mode. If you want a universal path, then "ARISS" is the one to use as that is supported by both APRS and PKT modes on the radio.

UNPROTO path

ISS will support many path settings but all you need is for your D7 to display ARISS in the path name to be relayed by the ISS.
