Malaysian Group of Schools #2, National Planetarium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Monday (Oct 15) 16:06 UTC

An International Space Station ARISS school contact has been planned with one of five Malaysian Group of Schools at the National Planetarium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 15 Oct. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 16:06 UTC.
The contact will be a direct between and Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor - 9W2MUS and station 9M2RPN. The contact should be audible in most of Malaysia. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The participants are expected to conduct the conversation in English.
This will be the second ARISS opportunity to establish a radio link between school children and the ISS, also talking to our Malaysian Astronaut. This is going to be a most stimulating experience for school children to learn first hand something about Space and human spaceflight.
These contacts will hopefully energize students to look beyond their school syllabus and learn about space, technology as well as about amateur radio. We hope that this opportunity would serve as an educational tool how science in space could improve life on Earth.
Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows:
1. In your first flight path over Malaysia, what were your feelings?
2. How do you sleep in zero gravity?
3. What do you avoid doing most in space?
4. What is the height of the ISS at the moment?
5. What speed is the ISS traveling at?
6. What is one thing you've learned being up in the space station?
7. How do you exercise in space?
8. What do you miss most when you are in space?
9. How do you get rid of waste?
10. Can you see Malaysia from space?
11. What kind of food do you eat in the ISS?
12. What made you want to become an astronaut?
13. What experiment are you doing on board the ISS?
14. What do you do in your spare time?
15. What happens when you have tears in your eye?
16. Is it quiet or noisy in your working cabin?
17. What kind of personal belongings are you allowed to bring to the ISS?
18. This is Malaysia's 50th independence. What are your feelings?
19. Do you wear shoes in space?
20. What do you look forward to do most in space?
Information about the next scheduled ARISS contact can be found at http://www.rac.ca/ariss/upcoming.htm#NextContact . Packet is occasionally active on 145.825 simplex.

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.
ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers on-board the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology, and learning. Further information on the ARISS program is available on the website http://www.rac.ca/ariss (graciously hosted by the Radio Amateurs of Canada).

Re: Malaysian Group of Schools #2, National Planetarium, Kuala L
At least 4 schools will be participating in the live contacts between 9M2RPN Planetarium Negara and Angkasawan, Sheikh, 9W2MUS from ISS. These contacts will be under the rules and regulations of ARISS. programme. Radio Amateurs are encouraged to listen but not transmit as it would interfere with the uplink especially arranged for the participating schools. Our grateful thanks to MCMC who have given us fullest support and permission to participate in this programme. We hope that after successful conclusion of these contacts, this would hopefully become a regular activity for schools to participate in learning about Space. It was the amateur community largely led by ARRL. NASA, IARU, JARL and other Amateur Societies that mooted ARISS programme that is now reaping rich harvest in disseminating Space knowledge starting at the grass roots - the Space scientists of tomorrow.
Satellite Ground Station, at National Planetarium Call Sign 9M2RPN will be jointly operated by Sangat, 9M2SS and Sion, 9W2QC.
Live Contact by students from SK Bukit Damansara
Mr. Sangat Singh
My daughter, Natasha Kavina from SK Bukit Damansara KL will be participating in this programme on 16/17
Oct.. Kindly let us know whether the students will be allowed to speak to the other members of the crew
apart from Dr. Sheikh. Thanks
Thanks for your mail. It
Thanks for your mail. It will not be possible as only Sheikh is assigned for all Malaysian contacts. Also the time constrain as we hope to handle at least 20 - 25 students for each pass.

Students' life contact with Dr. Sheikh
Dear Mr. Sangat Singh
Thanks for your prompt reply. I understand the predicament after watching the life contact between
the students & Dr. Sheikh yesterday. Anyway I must commend on your team's effort for a marvellous
job in making this dream a reality for the children.
ARISS Contact With 9M2RPN
9M2SS
I must express my extreme pleasure to you sir for the commendable effort that your and Sion has done at 9M2RPN. The only regret is that i have not read any news item on the 2 school contact with 9W2MUS onboard the RS0ISS/NA1SS.
Its also a great pity that MUS is not working outside the ARISS schedule due to his hectic predetermined function on the ISS. I am sure a lot of HAM station would really like to put him down the log, (I know, I am) as i heard his respond to RPN this morning, he's receving a lot of QRM from the ground.
Anyhow i would keep trying to call him whenever he flies over Borneo - but due to RPN close proximity i cant initiate a call much earlier than i would like, as tx might qrm RPN.
Once again sir, good job and i do hope the youngster would look well on HAM and take up the hobby. They might become an Angkasawan one day and woud need to sit for the RAE ... :)

THANK YOU KINDLY
Thank you for your kind words. We are hoping you will be able to see all the contacts on Angkasa's Web. We have a copy of the typical Crews daily schedule and there is hardly any time for them to come for QSOs, particularly when they are over Malaysia. They are mostly asleep during that period. Unless a sked is agreed upon it might be difficult to make a random contact. To check the capability of your station packet contact is the reliable mean. Unfortunately that is switched off too for the duration of ARISS skeds.
The most important ingredient is to maintain a high degree of discipline and not interfere with uplink or downlink frequencies to cause delibrate QRM. Sion and I are grateful that this has not been a serious problem so far. Hope these contacts will encourage amateurs to discover the joys of space.

Dear Sangat 9m2SS and Shawn 9w2QC,
Wishing you all the best for the next 4 days of contacts. We are proud of the achievements made at 9M2RPN thus far.
On a personal note, I really hope this experience could persuade Shawn to get his 9M by March 2008 together with all the 9W Angkasawans...
Keep up the excellent work and make Malaysia proud.
VIVA Malaysia!
9M2SS and 9W2QC,Good job
9M2SS and 9W2QC,
Good job for making happen on the contact with 9W2MUS last night. I had recieved the tx from ISS with Q2.
Understand that we are encourage to listen but not to transmit am I still looking ohter slot to transmit to ISS>
Can't wait for monitoring tx from ISS to nite.
OK.

A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL
Sion, 9W2QC and I are grateful for nearly perfect discipline for refraing to uplink during the ARISS sessions. We have at times listened to amateurs trying to transmit on 145.800. This would interfere with the school contaqcts and disappoint the kids.
Would be most grateful if no transmission is made on 145.800 at all times. It would not only prevent the school children to listen but would also prevents other amateus to monitor. The ARISS is a closed system and took Sion and I more than 6 months to arrange. Normally just once school is assigned. Since a Malaysian Astronaut is aboard we have managed 5 contacts. Let's not cause QRM for the sake of common good. Wish you all Selamat Hari Raya and let's come out with flying colours.

Good Job!
Good Job to 9M2RPN Ham Operator who bring Joy to School students participated in this Contact.
Is a disappointed for 2nd Batch Students event.
Why QRM station uses downlink frequency to make contact with ISS.
Let's us be discipline ourselves. Give hope to students to have their chance of their life time to have contact with astronaut and enjoy Ham Radio.

Bandplan Igno-rant!!!!!
Richard 9W2CBL,
My POV is that most of the local station has no idea that contact with ISS is possible, they might not even know what an OSCAR is, their immediate target while studying to pass the RAE is just that, pass the RAE and wahlaaaa !!! QSO on 2 meter.
Some i believe has no knowledge of what a band plan is, hence the lacksidasial attitude.
As sat com is an eye opener to them, without basic or knowledge they just 'picit tekan tekan' and tx on downlink. Sad isn't it.
Gary
Agreed with Gary on the
Agreed with Gary on the subject (picit tekan tekan).
2nd day(16/10 Time:12.20am) on the 145.800 I heard a few QRM stations calling MUS for contact.
So sad :-(
Today (17/10 Time:12.31am) clearly(Q4) heard MUS get contact with RPN just using my 5/8 mobile antenna.
I am succesfully record it. The conversation was last only 10 minutes.
Too bad that crew members on ISS is asleep when reaching Malaysia region on daylight.
Perhaps Sangat/Sion will give some commnent..
