Visible Sighting

Panther – April 29, 2007 – 12:54

Hi I'm new to the club, only joined today. Just wanted to share my experience with everyone. Last Night at around 9pm I went out to our back garden and looked up at the sky to see if any stars were visible yet.
My breath was taken away at the sight of what looked like a huge star, I knew it couldnt be Sirius, it was too big.. I went to get my husband who, upon seeing the bright object in the sky, was convinced it was the International Space Station.
He went on the web to visit a tracking site he'd found a while ago. When he saw the position of The I.S.S. he knew, that the bright star was definatelt the I.S.S.
He came back out to tell me and I was awestruck, I couldnt believe it.
Ever since they launched the station into orbit, I have been fascinated by it. I'm not really up on all the technical jargon about the station; the reason I am fascinated with it is because that space station is our future... it will be our stepping stone out into the last undiscovered country.
I watched for ages and saw it slowly moving across the sky, and I dont mind admitting, I became a little emotional too.
It was an experience I shall treasure forever.
Thanks for listening to me ramble on.

kb0zuu – August 20, 2007 – 18:22

i went out to take the trash out lastnight , i saw it was nice and clear, and almost a 1/2 moon, suddenly i notice there are 2 stars moving in the sky very bright, one seems more orange than the other. so i watch them for about 10 seconds more then i remember that the shuttle just undocked from the ISS yesterday. the neighbor guy see my looking up and ask "whats up"? LOL i tell him thats the shuttle and the ISS there , he said where but b4 i could get him confirm he could see then they were fading outta sight. and all this happend and i for got my camera. Im watching for it tonight and there are suposed to be a few good passes 20 degrees + .

This link should be of some help http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/index.html It has sighting opportunities for many major cities. Pick one nearby and you should have a good chance.

Some good passes over europe

G7MIZ – August 11, 2007 – 13:15

Some good passes over Europe at the moment and I managed to image both spacecraft on Thursday evening.

I have updated my website with the new images...... http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/satcom_transits/March2005.html

.....and here there's a close up of Endeavour with an outline graphic showing the orientation of the orbiter http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/satcom_transits/shuttle_col_outline_1.jpg
