Contact with the ISS

KB3NDS – December 9, 2006 – 20:40

I was fortunate enough to get my ticket while Commander McArthur was still in the sky. I was able to talk to him 2 times during his flight. Since then, I have tried several times with no luck. We can only pray for another astronaut like Bill McArthur to fly another mission!
Here is the link with audio of my first contact.

Contacts over South Africa

ZS6TW – December 3, 2006 – 15:58

Hi,
Over the past 20 years or so, I have been fortunate to make contacts with orbiting crew from a number of locations here in south Africa.
First with crew on the mir, then the shuttles and lately ISS. I recall that some of the MIR crew was also very very active and we had many contacts.
Its just as much fun and exciting to chat with astro/cosmonauts now as those years ago, but today I can involve my kids and the positively influence will definately carry forward into their future.

There is a problem with being located here on the tip of Africa.
Some of the crew probably never tried putting out a call over these parts - thinking the activity here to be near nill. Which of course is pretty accurate compared to what the activity levels are in US and Europe.

On the plus side - if a crew member puts out a call, they are able to have a nice long conversation without interference problems.

Only one contact

Jim kr2t – December 2, 2006 – 20:47

My one and only contact was in November of last year with Bill. It was just before the Army-Navy game, and since my qth was near Philadelphia, Bill took some time to chat about his Army days, and how he was rooting for Army. I was almost speechless - but it was a great contact!!

Voice contact with NA1SS Bill

i7pqd – November 30, 2006 – 10:46

This was an interesting poll on the old website so I thought we'd do it again since Bill McArthur was so active. I expect a lot more "1" votes. As of Nov 29, 2006, I have been fortunate enough to work Korzun, Fincke, Krikalev, Phillips, W. McArthur, Ansari and Lopez-Alegria.
