Working iss from Africa

The great pleasure a bout working the ISS over an Africa is, you own the ISS ship alone, over all the passes, no one to pinch, no unlicensed vhf users. :wink:

I got over the last month a lot of friends and experience, with my temporally setup. I managed to send messages with 5 watts using a vertical homemade antenna, Icom 207 and kpc tnc ,some time using uiss with pc sound card.

Believe me no single contact failed from my qth Khartoum to the ship, no single time iss ignored me from horizon to horizon. I like it when it comes from southwest as my temporally antenna is just above my roof with good window at this direction and with poor or semi poor windows to east and west .I was very happy with this poor setup specially When my daughter Reem (st2yl ) put up her first message at the flying bbs.

A lot of friends sent me mail asking skid via satellites when they saw my callsign at the international space station's pms .
most of them told me this sad news
(NO OTHER AMATEUR SATE STATION IS ACTIVE NOW FROM ALL AFRICA EXCEPT SOME FROM FAR FOOTPRINT, THE SOUTH AFRICA) :(
asking why no one from africa on satellite ?.?????????

This let me to think seriously, to upgrade my station and my antenna system asap.
