newbe question on ISS voice

Hi Everyone,

I just joined ISSFC today and wanted to voice my appreciation for the site. A couple of weeks ago, I watched the ISS transit overhead at my QTH FN20ux on 3 different evenings. The first 2 nights, I heard Col Wheelock on 145.8 but on the third night I heard nothing, and it was on that third evening when I tried to make contact.

The same thing happened tonight as ISS transited at 21:07 L. Nothing heard at all on 145.8. I tried to make contact but no luck.

Since I'm new at this, does this inactivity indicate that the crew is working another mode, or that they might be busy with their real jobs :-) ? I was surprised at not having heard anything during the last 2 passes. My next attempt will be this Thursday at 20:28 L.

Thanks for any insight,

Earl

Typical operations

Normally the radio is on 145.825. When the crew is active, the radio will be on 145.80. The radio is turned off for EVA and vehicle activity on the Russian segment.

Volume down

During periods when the radio is unattended, it normally has the volume turned down in order to not disturb the crew. It is usually on unless required to be off as mentioned before, unplugged to allow another experiment access to the power or the radio is having issues.
